(60004341) Radiation Safety Awareness for Technical Operations Personnel
BRIEFING 2011-02-08
The Air Traffic Organization (ATO) uses many different systems in support of NAS operations. Some of these systems contain sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. For example, employees at long range radars could potentially be exposed to x-ray radiation and radio frequency (RF) radiation. The purpose of this training is to provide employees with a basic awareness of radiation safety. The course includes contains information on each type of radiation (ionizing and non-ionizing); the health effects of each type; control measures to minimize employee exposure; and examples of where these sources of radiation may be found in NAS facilities. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employees to be informed of hazards in their workplace. This course will provide employees who work at NAS facilities with a basic awareness of the radiation hazards in their workplaces.
