This course provides an overview of the processes and skills that cover the acquisition of technical and administrative space, from requirements-gathering to occupancy. Beginning with an overview of project management -- to facilitate scheduling, resource allocation, communication, quality management, and documentation -- the course presents three phases of space acquisition. The Pre-Award phase includes delineated areas, market surveys, and requirements. The Award phase comprises space layout, evaluation criteria, and preparation of lease forms. The Post-Award phase consists of team building, drawings, build-outs, change orders, and acceptance of space. Methodologies include lecture, facilitated discussion, case study, and individual and small-group activities and exercises. Students will: Discover tools for project development, market surveys, and the preparation of lease documentation Learn how to set up and facilitate a project team to help you manage the project from build-out through occupancy Update your knowledge of lease policies and procedures Enhance your space acquisition comfort level by networking with colleagues having space acquisition experience
