ASIs involved with surveillance associated with the airworthiness determination of airframes, aircraft engines, propellers, appliances, and component parts of aircraft must have a solid understanding of the classification of repairs, alterations, and changes to type design. The authority for a person to approve an aircraft for return to service after maintenance as well as the type of data required to perform the work is determined by the classification. Airworthiness ASIs may also be authorized to approve data associated with certain major alterations. The purpose of this course is to provide inspectors with foundational knowledge of the maintenance and certification rules necessary to understand the requirements and limits of such an authorization. The skills and knowledge addressed in this course are required to effectively perform task M3.2.4. Perform Field Approval of Major Repairs and Major Alterations..
