The purpose of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Initial Training is to provide Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASI) and Regional All Weather Operations (AWOs) with current information on UAS operations in the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) and the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the functions of a UAS ASI or AWO. This training will include a brief history of UAS within the FAA, the construction of AFS-407, Unmanned Aircraft Program Office, the interface with the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Service Centers and HQ AJV-1300, and current AFS-407 policy on UAS in the NAS. Training will also include a primer on the public and civil divisions of UAS operations and their operational submission and approval processes. These processes include the ATO and Flight Standards Certificate of Authorization or Waiver (COA) process and evaluation, UAS Experimental, Civil Special Air Worthiness Certificate process, and the operation of recreational UAS under Advisory Circular 91-57 will be presented. In addition, the current status of the UAS Rulemaking, organizational structure, and general knowledge of Unmanned Aircraft Systems will be discussed. | |||
