The purpose of this training is to provide participants with the cognitive and interpersonal skills needed to manage resources within an organized system, not so much with the technical knowledge and skills required to operate equipment. In this context, cognitive skills are defined as the mental processes used for gaining and maintaining situational awareness, for solving problems and for making decisions. Interpersonal skills are regarded as communications and a range of behavioral activities associated with teamwork. In many operational systems as in other walks of life, skill areas often overlap with each other, and they also overlap with the required technical skills. While the general concepts of CRM apply globally, Flight Test CRM has very specific and critical differences. Unlike airline or general aviation flights which simply transport people or goods from A to B, flight test involves difficult, high risk, intensive maneuvers orchestrated, usually by 1 or more Flight Test Pilots and 1 or more Flight Test Engineers. These differences require a specific skill set and the ability of the crew to work together in unique and standardized ways. Methods of Instruction: Instructor-led classroom instruction (ground school). Hands-on exercises in simulators using a variety of flight test scenarios, including pre- and post-briefings. Target Audience(s): All Aircraft Certification (AIR) Flight Test Crewmembers (assigned crew numbers) are required to attend this training. Prerequisite(s): None. Notes for Non-AIR Audiences: This course is designed for AIR Flight Test Crewmembers only. Non-AIR participants interested in taking this course must be approved on a case-by-case basis by the designated AIR Course Sponsor or Flight Test Branch Manager.
