This course provides FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DARs) with the background, key policies, and procedures necessary to issue special airworthiness certificates in the experimental category for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), optionally piloted aircraft (OPA), and aircraft flown as either UAS or OPA. Topics include characteristics of UAS, OPA, and OPA/UAS; the evolution and integration of UAS and OPA; responsibilities and coordination of the FAA certification team; tasks unique to the certification of UAS, OPA, and OPA/UAS; and the airworthiness certification process. Internal Audience: This course is intended for FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs) issuing Special Worthiness Certification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Optionally Piloted Aircraft (OPA). External Audience: The course is available to non-FAA personnel. DMIRs/DAR-Fs with delegated authority (FUNCTION CODES 70-81) to issue special airworthiness certificates to UAS, OPA, and OPA/UAS.
