This course provides basic networking knowledge utilized by system and equipment within the National Airspace System (NAS). Time Division, Multiplexing (TDM) technologies were primarily utilized by legacy NAS systems. Currently, the FAA is in process of updating TDM to begin using Internet Protocol (IP) technologies which can be supported by the the future FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) telecommunications program. Course topics: Introduction to Networking concepts, Protocols, Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model; Layer 1-Physical; Layer 2-Data Link, Layer 3-Network, Layer 4-Transport, Layer 5- Session, Layer 6-Presentation, and Layer 7-Application, and the Transmission, Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP) Model; Network Access, Internet, Transport and Application Layers.
