(47720121) LIGHTNING PROTECTION, GROUNDING, BONDING, AND SHIELDING (LPGBS) (BRIEFING)
BB-WBT 2023-01-23
The students will learn the science of lightning, the theory of lightning protection and grounding, and practical LPGBS practices in the FAA. Lightning/transient protection and grounding are extremely important in FAA facilities because they have a significant impact on facility reliability. The knowledge of methods and practices is constantly evolving as FAA engineers, technicians, and installers apply the latest information derived from experimentation and observation. As deployed systems employ integrated circuits with greater element density the damage threshold becomes lower and lower. Practices and techniques employed must therefore be more rigorous. Regardless of the quality of design the implementation is only as good as the individual installation. The old saying about how the engineer designed it, management approved it, and manufacturing built it, is as true today as ever before. It is only through a thorough understanding of the principles involved that we can insure the proper implementation of a good design.
