This workshop focuses on providing the skills and knowledge necessary for integration and standardization of network monitoring capabilities for Network Enterprise Management Center (NEMC) system specialists. Linux is a preemptive multitasking multi-user operating system. It manages file system and system memory resources, inter-process communication and peripheral equipment. The Linux workshop takes students through a practical demonstration of various commands such as vi editor, starting & stopping services, executing shell scripts and the run & control processes. The students will be able to describe and identify locations in file structures and change file permissions as well as customizing the user environment. Some basic skills associated with user administration will also be discussed. The tasks of sharing directories using NFS, using X window system configuration and performing disk partitioning and scheduling utilities will be demonstrated. Finally, the workshop will provide the students with the fundamentals of networks, how to use them and how to configure a Linux computer for operation.
