This course is intended for personnel involved in instrument approach procedure development using FAA Orders 8260.3 and 8260.19. The class emphasizes terminal instrument flight procedures development using various automated tools. It also includes a discussion of the criteria associated with terminal flight procedures development including complex mathematical computations. While focusing on the automated aspects of instrument procedure development, information is presented for all procedure segments and includes obstacle clearance and its associated mathematical computations, airspace constraints, calculating descent gradients and related form documentation. The course is presented through classroom instruction and laboratory exercises and uses the IAPA automation tool extensively. It is primarily intended for Aeronautical Navigation Services procedure development and charting personnel.
