Instructor Development: Aviation English Course 15005
DESCRIPTION
This 12-day, 96-hour course is designed for English as a Second Language teachers, flight or air traffic instructors, or program administrators to gain theory of language acquisition, practice effective English teaching with aviation content, receive guidance for diagnostic testing, and develop expertise in rating assessments to ICAO Standards. Includes support to prepare civil aviation authority regulations to include ICAO Doc. 9835 requirement, and to use the Aviation Language Proficiency (ALP) Test 4 for licensing.
OBJECTIVES
Successful participants will be able to:
- Deliver aviation English lessons using current ESL methodology
- Diagnose learner needs and adapt materials as necessary
- Apply placement, progress, and proficiency testing to ICAO Standards
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
English teachers or aviation industry instructors with fluent English.
COURSE OUTLINE
- ESL acquisition and methodologies for teaching structure, pronunciation, listening and speaking, and error correction
- ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements
- Familiarization with basic air traffic procedures
- Lesson planning, preparation and delivery
- Testing/Evaluation Procedures
PREREQUISITES
Should meet minimum FAA Academy Aviation English Instructor qualifications, derived from the ICAO guidance manual, Doc. 9835. These include: ESL certificate, aviation radiotelephony familiarity, and aviation English program experience.
Participants not fully meeting these qualifications may be admitted after completing pre-course work.
Non-native English speakers must be able to read, write, speak and understand English at near native-like ability.
