Give students capability to recognize fall hazards, noncompliance issues, how to mitigate the hazard, and how to teach or manage the program to others. Course shall include, but not be limited to, the following topics: - Fall hazard identification and mitigation, - Applicable fall protection regulations, - Common fall hazards in AFS workplaces, - Different fall protection equipment, components, their use, limitations and required capacities, - Detailed inspection of equipment components and systems (including component compatibility), - Assessing fall protection systems and determining system safety and when a system is unsafe including: clearance requirements, free fall distance, swing fall impact forces, potential impact forces, - Assessing rescue procedures. Hands-on exercises also included to ensure students know how to physically don and doff harnesses, the basic types of harnesses on the market, perform fit check, how to use different types of fall protection equipment, how to inspect equipment and perform fall clearances needed. Overall, we need those employees that visit aviation-related operators: - To know what a safe system should entail - What to look for in a fall protection system prior to using their system - Different types of fall protection components they will likely see, how they work and their limitations.
