The AAIS-Trainer course includes lecture and hands-on training for four general topics: General Information, Roles and Responsibilities of FAA managers and employees, Program Requirements, and Respiratory Protection. The General Information and Roles and Responsibilities section focuses on the requirements in the FAA AFS AAIS Order. This includes the duties of the AFS Director, Division Managers, the AFS OSH Office and Program Manager, Field Office Managers and FAA employees conducting aircraft accident investigations. The Program Requirements section covers hazard identification and control (biological hazards chemical hazards, explosion hazards, electric hazards, noise, etc.), inspection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), illness and injury prevention, training and PPE acquisition. The Respiratory Protection section covers types of respirators that may be used by FAA inspectors conducting accident investigations (N95, P100, air purifying respirators, and powered air purifying respirators). It also covers the medical evaluation process for respirator users and teaches the student trainers how to perform respirator fit testing. Other topics include general aircraft accident procedures, respirator maintenance, and training. The student trainers will be able to teach the curriculum and fit test others in their office after successful completion of this course.
