FAA22000029 Active
(22000029) FATIGUE AND DAMAGE TOLERANCE
COURSE 2009-12-08
Concepts of fatigue, fracture mechanics and damage tolerance in aerospace structures are presented. Subjects include evolution of requirements for preventing fatigue damage plus a study of principles of fatigue mechanism, stress concentrations, fatigue properties, fatigue strength, damage accumulation, stress intensity factors, crack growth, residual strength and failure criterion. Concepts such as constant and variable amplitude loading, load spectra, inspection techniques and widespread fatigue damage will be covered. Analytical and numerical approaches to fatigue and damage tolerance in metallic structures will be discussed in detail and real time problems will be worked out during the class.
