| This course is designed to provide new General Aviation Airworthiness (GA AW) Aviation Safety Inspectors with the knowledge to conduct certification and surveillance activities for airmen and designees. An aircraft's airworthiness depends, in part, on the quality of the maintenance it receives, which relies on the use of well-qualified airmen. Airmen include mechanics, repairmen, and parachute riggers. These airmen play a key role in ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft, aeronautical parts, and related equipment such as parachutes. Certification and surveillance are critical to ensuring that these airmen perform their duties at the highest levels of safety. The certification process for airmen is accomplished by both aviation safety inspectors and designees persons who are authorized by the FAA to conduct airman certification activities. In addition, designees issue certain aircraft certifications. Therefore, ensuring that designees are qualified to perform their duties is also important to the overall safety of the flying public. | |||
