This course introduces the role of quantitative risk analysis in safety decision-making and identifies the risk types used in the Maintenance Safety Awareness Decision (MSAD) process. Participants will learn how to calculate risk values for MSAD and identify appropriate data sources to support those calculations. Topics include the value of quantitative versus qualitative risk, risk measures used in the MSAD process, distinctions between fleet and individual risk, life distribution types (infant mortality, constant rate, and wear-out), methods for calculating the risk of random and wear-out failures, and how to evaluation risk during the implementation of a control program. Internal Audience: This course is intended for Aircraft Certification Employees. External Audience: This course is available to non-FAA personnel. Prerequisite(s): None
