This course is presented by the Airman Education Programs Branch of the Civil Aeromedical Institute (CAMI). It is required by Order 4040.9C, FAA Aircraft Management Programs for flight crewmembers and technicians. An altitude chamber flight is used to acquaint the trainees with symptoms of hypoxia and to practice pressure breathing. An altitude chamber to 25,000 feet and rapid decompression from 8,000 to 18,000 feet in 5 seconds is included. Also included are physics of the atmosphere, respiration and circulation, trapped and evolved gases, hyperventilation oxygen equipment, and self-imposed stresses.
