This course is designed to equip Technicians, Engineers, and FAA Technical Center personnel with the necessary skills for the maintenance and repair of Direct-Expansion Air Conditioning systems. Through comprehensive lectures and hands-on training, participants will delve into the principles of Air Conditioning and refrigeration, gain an understanding of different types of refrigerants, and learn to interpret pressure-enthalpy diagrams. Key topics covered include the operation and maintenance of refrigerant metering devices, compressors, heat pumps, and the evaluation of airflow and its impact on system performance. Practical aspects such as refrigerant recovery, charging procedures, piping, brazing techniques, and effective leak detection methods will also be explored. Moreover, participants will receive instruction in FAA-compliant maintenance and repair practices, emphasizing system diagnosis and troubleshooting utilizing schematics, refrigerant gauges, and visual inspections. Upon completion of the Fundamentals of Air Conditioning course, students will be able to correctly reference associated manuals to operate, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance procedures.
