| This course is a part of the Aviation Safety (AVS) and Service/Office Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) program. This course is designed to train individuals who perform work at external industry workplaces such as, airports; maintenance, repair, overhaul, manufacturing, and engine testing facilities, aircraft accident sites, and other workplaces with high noise. To effectively protect employees from the harmful effects of noises that might be present in workplaces, OSHA requires that each employer evaluate the workplace and determine if high noise levels are present. The safe level of noise is 85 decibel (8 hour Time Weighted Average), which is about the level that you would produce as you raise your voice to talk to someone close by. OSHA requires that employees receive Hearing Protection training on the effects of the noise, and in the ways to properly protect yourself from the effects that it can have on your ability to hear. Hearing Conservation - User provides the initial training on the Service/Office's HCP that includes: - HCP Background - The effects of noise on hearing and how the auditory system works; - Noise Hazards - AVS-specific Exposure Monitoring - Controlling Noise Hazards; - The purpose of hearing protectors, the advantages, disadvantages, and attenuation of various types, and instructions on selection, fitting, use, and care; and - The purpose of audiometric testing. | |||
