The primary purpose of this course is to familiarize FS GA airworthiness inspectors with night vision imaging systems (NVIS), including NVIS and night vision goggle (NVG) concepts and how to prepare for and conduct aircraft inspections of NVIS equipped aircraft and NVG maintenance oversight. Maintenance inspectors that currently have oversight responsibility for: - operators with NVIS equipped aircraft, - repair stations approved for NVIS installation, and - maintenance and/or approvals of NVIS/NVG equipment will have priority for student enrollment in course offerings, and must successfully complete the course prior to performing NVIS/NVG inspections. Prior to attending this course, participants must be familiar with FAA Order 8900.1, Volume 6, Chapter 11, Section 22 - Conduct Night Vision Imaging System Evaluation Inspection. This section includes the Flight Standards Service Night Vision Imaging System Aircraft Inspection Job Aid. This course is conducted at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC). Most of the course is held at the FAA Academy. Part of Day 1 is held at Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI), where students will participate in a demonstration of the NITE Lab Terrain Board. The primary target audience for this course is FS GA airworthiness ASIs, geographic (airworthiness) ASIs and PMIs with oversight responsibility for: - operators with NVIS equipped aircraft - repair stations approved for NVIS/NVG modifications and inspection/repair - approvals of NVIS equipment The secondary target audience for this course is FS GA operations ASIs, geographic (operations) ASIs and POIs with oversight responsibility for: - operators approved for NVG operations, - and - FS AEG specialists, - AIR certification personnel, and - AIR Aviation Safety Engineers (ASE)
